Mental health support group for international queers
A support group dedicated to international queer individuals experiencing mental health challenges while living in Germany, specifically in the Wuppertal area.
The creation of this group is rooted in the difficulty many non-native speakers face when trying to join support groups where understanding and responding quickly is essential to fully benefit from the experience.
Being a foreigner in Germany also comes with unique challenges—both in medical contexts and in daily life—that are rarely addressed in other support groups, as these experiences are not typically shared by German participants. Cultural differences can further contribute to misunderstandings and create gaps that are often difficult to bridge.
Additionally, being queer and perceived as a woman can present obstacles in support groups that are not explicitly queer-affirming. Experiences of sexism and transphobia can prevent individuals from feeling safe and comfortable enough to speak openly.
